Cefalù

Cefalù

Cefalù, a small and picturesque seaside town on the northern coast of Sicily, was a city favored by the Norman kings. The king to whom Corso Ruggero is dedicated was Norman, and along this street, buildings from various periods with iron or cast-iron balconies stand, while alleys made of stairs lead up to the Rocca and straight streets descend towards the sea. The symbol of the city is Norman: the cathedral, a treasure chest of extraordinary golden mosaics. The Mandralisca Museum houses the famous “Portrait of an Unknown Man,” a 1465 work by Antonello da Messina. At the top, on the Rocca, is the Temple of Diana, a megalithic monument that the Greeks and Byzantines contributed to with their renovations. Finally, the characteristic beach is washed by crystal-clear waters.
