Bosa

Bosa

A charming village where tradition and modernity blend, sparking curiosity and fascination. Your first indelible image of Bosa will be the historic district of Sa Costa, with its colorful houses climbing the slopes of Serravalle Hill, dominated by the Malaspina Castle, dating back to the 12th century. You will reach it on foot: from above, you will admire the panoramic view of the entire town. The poetic Lungotemo with the Ponte Vecchio crossing the Temo River, the only navigable river in Sardinia, will accompany your walks through the ancient tanneries, which recall the roots of a town famous in Italy from the mid-1800s to the early 1900s for its high-quality leather production. This is also testified by the Tannery Museum.

Inside the village, stop at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, the town’s cathedral, and admire its beautiful frescoes. Within the castle walls is the Church of Our Lady of Sos Regnos Altos, adorned with a cycle of paintings from 1370: here, at the end of September, the most evocative celebrations of the year take place. Near the town center, in the rural area of Calmedia, stands the Romanesque Church of St. Peter Extra Muros, originally the center of Bosa Vetus before the population moved to the Sa Costa district (Bosa Nova), where you will see the Sa Funtana Manna, a 19th-century monument made of red trachyte.

Bosa is the main center of the historical region of Planargia, a place of craftsmanship and gastronomy, welcoming you with a glass of fine Malvasia, one of the most beloved sweet wines in Sardinia, and showing you its excellences: coral jewelry, asphodel baskets, fabrics, including filet, born from ancient female knowledge, and not least, the local fish catch. Another tradition that distinguishes the village is the Karrasegare Osincu. The Carnival of Bosa is one of the most characteristic and crowded in Sardinia, combining the charm of traditional masks with the allegory of modern carnivals.

At the mouth of the Temo River stands the tourist port, and nearby is Bosa Marina, a highly appreciated location, awarded every year by Legambiente’s Blue Guide. The beaches of S’Abba Druche, Portu Managu, Turas, and Compoltitu complete the coastal beauty, where you can dive in and relax. If you’re passionate about trekking and birdwatching, visit the Capo Marrargiu Biomarine Park and the Badde Aggiosu and Monte Mannu Nature Reserve.
